Many times, we feel sadness, depression, or discouragement. God knew that we would face moments or even seasons of depression, and He provided Scripture to help us remember that we don’t have to face these feelings alone. If you’re struggling and wondering why is my heart so sad?, read these Scriptures and say these prayers over yourself to help change your mindset and remind your heart that we have a Helper and Comforter!
Then Jesus said, “Come to Me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you. Let Me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.” – Matthew 11:28-30 NLT
Dear Jesus, I’m coming to You because the load I’m carrying feels overwhelming. You see this heaviness I’m bearing right now, but I believe Your Word is true, so I’m asking you to take it from me. Teach me how to walk with You so that I can trust You in my seasons of worry. I understand that when sadness and worry bring me to the point of fatigue or exhaustion, I can give You my burdens and trust that You will teach me and give me the rest I need. Thank You for how You love me and how You are so patient with me. In Jesus’ name I pray, amen.
The Lord hears His people when they call to Him for help. He rescues them from all their troubles. The Lord is close to the brokenhearted; He rescues those whose spirits are crushed. The righteous person faces many troubles, but the Lord comes to the rescue each time. – Psalm 34:17-19 NLT
Lord Jesus, I’m calling on You because I believe You hear me, even when no one else does. I want to feel Your nearness. I need to know that You are with me, rescuing me from this trouble. Please help this sadness to be lifted and let me see that because of You, I am never alone. I need Your reassurance that even when my sadness seems overwhelming, You will carry me through. Restore me from brokenness and heal my heart. Thank You for loving me the way You do. I’m asking this all in the name of Jesus, amen.
Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with My victorious right hand. – Isaiah 41:10 NLT
Heavenly Father, I need Your help. My circumstances have made me so fearful. I need Your help and strength to get through this trial. I believe You hold my world in Your hands, but today I’m feeling weak and scared. Please remind me that I’m not facing these battles on my own. Your strength goes before me. Let Your spirit encourage me as only You can. I’m trusting You in the midst of this storm. In Jesus’ name I pray, amen.
Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank Him for all He has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus. – Philippians 4:6-7 NLT
Dear Jesus, help me not to worry. Thank you for all the many blessings You have given me. When I’m in my darkest moments, will You remind me of all You’ve done? Jesus, I need You right now. I’m tired, sad, overwhelmed, and don’t see the answer. But I’m choosing to believe that You will answer my cry. Lord, I love how Your Word reminds me that Your peace guards my heart and mind. I recognize that peace doesn’t just make me feel better, it’s literally the shield against my loud and negative thoughts. Peace covers my heart when my emotions try to tear me down. I’m trusting in Your promise that tells me when I thank You and tell You my needs, You listen and cover me in Your peace. Thank You for shielding me. I’m trusting in You! In Jesus’ name I pray, amen.
