For his inaugural solo single, Benjamin William Hastings enlists Blessing Offor for “That’s The Thing About Praise.” The soulful, groove-heavy selection hails from Hastings’ expansive 25-song self-titled debut.
With a dose of realism, the track beautifully expounds on the truth found in the adage that life is hard, but God is good. Hastings proposes that our response to suffering, pain and disappointment should be praise. He contends it may not change our situation, but it often adjusts our perspective. For the song’s official music video — filmed in Nashville — he and Offor take a joy ride in a cherry red convertible that overflows with vibrant growth and signs of life.

While the artistry and experimental sonic landscape of the Irish-born singer’s music is fascinating, it’s his thought-provoking lyrics that immediately draw you in and keep you listening to his lengthy project. The pure poetry of “That’s The Thing About Praise” provides an excellent glimpse at the newcomer’s extraordinary pen. Offor stewards vibrant imagery on the first verse, which he co-wrote with the fellow wordsmith: “When the rain you want is a flood instead, and the roses bloom, but they’re not quite red. And when I reach the edge of my bravery, I’ll still be singin’ at the banks of an un-parted sea.”
It’s no wonder Hastings’ lyrical prowess is impressive. He’s co-written UNITED’s “So Will I (100 Billion X),” Cory Asbury’s “The Father’s House” and Brandon Lake's “Gratitude,” among other familiar hits.
Following a deluxe “Songwriters Edition” of his debut set, which features cut-by-cut commentary, Hastings further expanded his epic tracklisting by adding some new songs along with acoustic and live renderings of previously released selections, extending the ambitious collection to 39 recordings.
After wrapping a sold-out run of shows opening for Lake on his acclaimed “Miracle Nights” outing, the innovative singer/songwriter, who now resides in Los Angeles with his wife and two children, will embark on the “GOD IS GOOD! Tour” with Cody Carnes this summer.
