We Are Receiving a Kingdom That Is Unshakable

Read the transcript from today's video devotional.

The first thing that jumps out to me in our verse today is the word “unshakable.” Do you know what it feels like to feel like you've been shaken? Maybe you've been pressed by life. Maybe things didn't go according to your plan, and it just feels like everything is all shook up, and you find yourself in this place where it's like, man, how do I proceed?

Well, that's why the Scriptures are so incredible, because they give us so much knowledge and wisdom for how to proceed when we face these things.

What Can Be Shaken

When you look at this word "unshakable" as He speaks about us receiving a kingdom, you must understand what it means to be shaken. There's a lot of things that can be shaken: jobs, careers, finances, or relationships.

You know what can't be shaken? God's kingdom. It's unshakable.

We Are Receiving

The next thing that stands out to me about this verse—if you look at it, it says: "We are receiving."

When you really look at Scripture and you're understanding what the writers are actually saying to us, little parts of words like verb tense—those things are very important to look at.

When it says "receiving," notice it doesn't say "received." It doesn't say "will receive." It says "we are receiving." That means right now, presently, not in the future. It means right now you are receiving the kingdom.

A Gift, Not Something Earned

Notice it says that God has gifted us. We are receiving this gift, not building it, not earning it, not defending it. We're receiving it. That's a gift, my friend.

When you receive a gift, how should you respond? This verse tells us: Be thankful. Let us be thankful. Let us choose an attitude of gratitude.

Choose Gratitude Despite Circumstances

Even if your world in which you live might feel a little shaken, tossed to and fro at the moment, the kingdom that you are receiving—the gift from God—is unshakable.

If you place your focus there, then you can choose an attitude of gratitude. You can choose to be thankful in all circumstances, because we know that God has got us taken care of.

Worship as a Lifestyle

It also gives us instruction. Not only be thankful, but let us worship Him.

When we hear "worship," sometimes we think about a music set, and that is a part of worship. But this is not what this verse is talking about. It's talking about a lifestyle of worship.

A Lifestyle of Worship

What a lifestyle of worship is talking about is your everyday, day-to-day deeds on your commute, in your job, in the grocery store line, the attitude that you're choosing. Everything we do, we do it unto God as an act of worship to Him through the lifestyle in which we live.

By choosing Him, choosing to acknowledge the gift of life that He has given us, choosing to acknowledge the gift of the Kingdom—the unshakable kingdom that He has given us. We're focused there because when we focus there, it eliminates the distractions of the things that are shaking us.

We Don't Have to Worry

We don't have to worry about that, because the God who has gifted us this unshakable Kingdom is the God who created it, and the God who created you.

That brings real joy to my heart.

Holy Fear and Awe

Let's be thankful, and let's worship Him with holy fear and awe—not cowering fear, but with respect and admiration.

Because God cared enough about me, and God cared enough about you, to give you this tremendous gift. That makes every day worth moving forward because of that unshakable Kingdom that He's given us.
