Colorado Christian University Chancellor Dr. Donald Sweeting has helped shape a national roadmap for K-12 education reform as part of a policy initiative led by The Heritage Foundation.

Sweeting served on the drafting committee for The Phoenix Declaration: An American Vision for Education, which outlines guiding principles to restore academic excellence, expand parental rights and ensure transparency in U.S. schools.

“This past fall I had the privilege of working with The Heritage Foundation on education policy for K-12 schools,” Sweeting said. “I was grateful to contribute to the drafting of this national statement on education principles and to bring CCU into this important conversation. The Phoenix Declaration will help shape the future of public education in America.”

A Blueprint for National Education Reform

It is hoped that the Trump administration will recognize The Phoenix Declaration as a guiding framework for reforming, redirecting and downsizing the U.S. Department of Education. Recent Federal initiatives now reflect some of the declaration’s principles, including the “Ending Radical Indoctrination in K-12 Schooling” executive order, which eliminates funding for programs that promote discriminatory ideologies and strengthens parental rights in education.

CCU President Eric Hogue emphasized the importance of this initiative in reclaiming the integrity and mission of education in America. “For decades, the American education system has drifted from its purpose, prioritizing ideology over instruction and activism over academics,” Hogue said.

“The Phoenix Declaration offers a path forward—one that restores truth, honors parental authority and fosters real learning. CCU is proud of Dr. Sweeting’s involvement in this national effort. His acumen and leadership reflect our commitment to academic excellence and biblical truth. This is not just about reform; it’s about reclaiming education for the next generation,” Hogue said.

Colorado Christian University, located in Lakewood, Colorado, is a nationally-recognized Christian liberal arts institution committed to academic excellence, biblical truth and Christ-centered leadership. CCU was included in the Wall Street Journal’s College Pulse Ranking for a second consecutive year and named one of the fastest-growing universities in the country for the ninth year in a row.?
