For Veterans Day each year, the Nebraska State Capitol is lighted up in green.
Why green?

Years back, Walmart started a campaign to encourage veterans called “Greenlight A Vet.” The concept was to have people change their home’s outside porch light to green bulbs to specifically honor veterans’ service to America. It was compared to the ‘yellow ribbons’ used to welcome home warriors or show support.

Even today, the green light effort continues around the country, with the light also intended to raise awareness of resources available to assist veterans, including those struggling with mental health issues like PTSD. Veteran suicide rates are 52% higher than among those who have never served in the armed forces.

For veterans experiencing a mental health crisis, a special phone number is available nationwide. 988 can be called or texted. More here
