MercyMe returns to radio with “Always Only Jesus,” the title-cut of their 11th studio project. An emphatic statement about who they believe in, the song is a declaration of unwavering faith in Christ.
When crafting their latest album, their label team encouraged the five-piece to write a congregational-friendly worship song. “Always Only Jesus” was their attempt at a massive modern worship chorus — à la Elevation Worship — that people could easily sing along to. Musically, it’s a soaring anthem. Lyrically, it outlines the firm foundation on which the men in MercyMe have built their lives and careers.
“I feel like that’s what we need right now — an anthem that we can all agree on,” guitarist Mike Scheuchzer says of the intentionally crafted original. “We may not agree on anything else, but we all agree that it’s ‘Always Only Jesus.’ That’s why the album feels like anthem after anthem after anthem, because they are all definitive statements about Jesus.”
Those anthems include former No. 1 hits “Then Christ Came” and “To Not Worship You.”
“This one in some ways is like a warm blanket to us,” frontman Bart Millard shared of the 10-track collection upon release. “For me personally, if I ever needed this [subject] to be front and center, not just in MercyMe, but in my life, it’s now. I can’t wait to hear people sing these songs and worship. Every song points back to Jesus.”
MercyMe recently shared numerous selections from “Always Only Jesus” when they headlined the Kick-Off Concert at the 11th annual K-LOVE Fan Awards Weekend. Additionally, Millard served as a presenter at the star-studded awards ceremony. Nominated again in 2024 for Group of the Year, the band has picked up multiple K-LOVE Fan Awards through the years, including an Artist of the Year win in 2018 on the heels of their biopic, “I Can Only Imagine.”
The group, who will celebrate three decades together this summer, will hit the road this fall alongside Crowder and Cochren & Co. for the “Together Again…Again Tour.” In November, they’ll visit a dozen cities, sharing the stage with TobyMac and Zach Williams.
