for KING & COUNTRY’s “Unsung Hero” first debuted on 2022’s “What Are We Waiting For?,” the duo’s fourth studio project. The personal ballad recently reappeared as a seminal track on the outfit’s “Inspired By Soundtrack,” serving as the theme song for the 17-time K-LOVE Fan Award winners’ feature-length film of the same name.
The single heads to radio as “Unsung Hero” takes the No. 2 spot at the box office following the film’s official opening weekend. Like the movie — which officially hit theaters Apr. 26, 2024 — the original song honors the mother of brothers Joel and Luke Smallbone and their five siblings.
On the movie’s accompanying “Inspired By” soundtrack, “Unsung Hero” joins a tracklisting highlighted by for KING & COUNTRY’s reimagined interpretations of iconic CCM hits, including Michael W. Smith’s “Place In This World,” Amy Grant’s “Lead Me On” and Stryper’s “To Hell With The Devil” — breathing fresh life into ’90s cuts that influenced the duo. The Australian outfit will make a highly anticipated return to their homeland for a string of shows this spring. They’ll then headline a 31-city “Unsung Hero” run this fall in major markets across the U.S.
The film, which chronicles the Smallbone family’s remarkable story of resilience and faith, was already in the works when the pair initially unveiled the pivotal track as the movie has been in production for the past four years.
As the blockbuster hit portrays, real-life “Unsung Hero” Helen Smallbone has long been the anchoring force in the lives of her husband and seven children. She unwaveringly supports her husband as he loses his business and subsequently decides to move their family across the globe with little more than the clothes in their suitcases. As depicted in the film, she also encourages her kids as they pursue their respective dreams, especially her oldest daughter, Rebecca St. James, whose story most prominently plays out on screen.
