Thanks to an outpouring of requests from fans, Brandon Lake has officially released “That’s Who I Praise.” The five-time K-LOVE Fan Award winner initially teased a portion of the then-unfinished track via his social platforms back in April. The clip quickly caught fire across TikTok and Instagram as users began creating their own reels with the audio. That’s when Lake realized he had to finish the song and accelerate the release date.
“I am in awe of the response my new single, ‘That’s Who I Praise,’ has gotten. From social media, to the thousands of music video submissions, I decided to release this song way before the scheduled date,” Lake affirms. “I hope this song shines light on who God was, is and will forever be. This song is an anthem that takes the focus off of what we need from God, but more so, praises God for simply who He is.”
A K-LOVE First, “That’s Who I Praise” namechecks a myriad of biblical heroes, cramming as many Scripture-backed stories into the lyrics as possible. Referencing David, Moses, Mary, Daniel and other men and women of extraordinary faith, the fist-pumping pop selection also acknowledges the many characteristics of God, as He reveals Himself to not just be a mountain mover, but also a breaker of chains and a Savior capable of impossible things. Lake penned the articulate offering alongside Steven Furtick, Benjamin William Hastings, Micah Nichols and Zac Lawson.
A series of fan-submitted reels makes up the official music video for the song, which also features Lake and his three boys with a wholesome close-up of the singer and his youngest, Banner, at the end.
“That’s Who I Praise” serves as Lake’s first glimpse of new music following his acclaimed album, “Coat of Many Colors.” He’s already added the song to his setlist for the “Summer Worship Nights” tour with Phil Wickham, which wraps Aug. 28, 2024, in Honolulu, Hawaii.
The South Carolina native recently made history as he garnered more Dove nominations in a single year than any other artist before him. As both a songwriter and recording artist, Lake received an unprecedented 16 nominations ahead of the 55th Annual GMA Dove Awards, set to air on TBN Oct. 4, 2024.
