Anne Wilson joins forces with Chris Tomlin for her new Gospel-centric song, “The Cross.” The expansive ballad zeroes in on the sacrifice of Jesus. Welcome news for the Prodigal or for anyone who carries the heavy burden of shame, “The Cross” — penned by Wilson, Matthew West, Jeff Pardo and Jonathan Smith — brings relief for the sinner and redemption for the guilty.

“I wrote the song, ‘The Cross,’ on my new album as a reminder of what Jesus did for us. He gave up His life so that we could have life in and through Him,” Wilson shares. “I want to remind all of you that no matter what you have done, no matter how far you have run away from God, it is never too late to come back to Him. He loves you so much, and He gave up everything to give you everything.”
Together, the selection’s collaborators officially debuted the song at Tomlin’s annual “Good Friday Nashville” event this spring. Although churches far and wide are sure to include the new worship anthem in their Easter sets, the original is poignant no matter the season.

With a message as powerful as its melody, “The Cross” serves as Wilson’s second single from her sophomore album, “REBEL,” to impact Christian radio. The powerful track follows the Kentucky native’s No. 1 hit, “Strong.” A live version of “The Cross” — sans Tomlin — is also available on Wilson’s brand new “REBEL (Live From Lexington),” captured during a recent hometown release show.
The Christian/country crossover artist is currently headlining “The REBEL Tour” in support of her latest LP. The major outing is set to wrap Nov. 17, 2024, in Salem, Ore. Meanwhile, Wilson was just announced as part of the lineup for Winter Jam 2025, which is slated to visit 38 cities at the top of next year.
