K-LOVE Fan Awards: Steven Curtis Chapman

During an evening defined by show-stopping collaborations, Bart Millard, Matthew West and Mac Powell took the stage for a standout performance at the 2023 K-LOVE Fan Awards to honor Steven Curtis Chapman’s historic, record-breaking feat of 50 No. 1 singles. Together, the three fan favorites saluted their hero and friend with a medley of his biggest hits.

The MercyMe frontman saddled up to lead the nostalgic tribute with Chapman signature “The Great Adventure.” West followed with a passionate rendition of chart-topping classic “For The Sake of the Call.” Wearing a vintage SCC T-shirt, Powell completed the mashup with a moving verse from “I Will Be Here,” Chapman’s longtime vow to his wife, Mary Beth, who looked on lovingly from the front pew of the Grand Ole Opry House.

Kicking the energy up a notch, the trio waded into the deep end for an all-in version of iconic smash “Dive,” during which the man of the hour himself made an appearance before taking the mic for the song that marked his 50th climb to the summit, “Don’t Lose Heart.”

Terrian and Chapman’s most recent tourmates, Coby James and Joseph O’Brien, helmed background vocals for the all-star tribute to the CCM legend.

In a video curated by his record label and posted online prior to the 10th annual K-LOVE Fan Awards, 36 different artists took the time to extend their well wishes to Chapman, who is now the first Christian artist to ever see 50 of his songs reach the top of the charts.

“Congrats on 50 No. 1s. Unbelievable achievement and, even more importantly, an amazing legacy of one song after the other, pointing people to Jesus,” West enthused during his portion of the reel. “Keep it up, man. Congrats on 50!”

“I wanted to congratulate you on 50 No. 1 songs. That’s unbelievable. I think I know all of them and sang all of them at one point. In fact, I’m going to do that for you now. I’ll start from the beginning… No, I’m just kidding,” added Millard, “but I’m proud to call you a friend. I’m so happy for you, man. Congrats! Enjoy it!”

Powell expressed his sentiments as well, remarking, “I am so excited for you, brother. No. 1 for 50 times — 50 times! You have as many No. 1s as I have years being alive. I’m so thankful for you, my friend, and so happy for you. Congrats! I love you.”
